Reflection / Backscattering Probes with Reference Leg

Our Fiber Optic Reflection / Backscattering Probes are used for measuring specular or diffuse reflectance from a surface, fluorescence from solid surfaces, or backscattering and fluorescence in solutions and powders.

We offer several Reflection / Backscattering Probes that include a reference leg for monitoring the illumination (or reference) source, which is useful for any experiment in which variation or instability in the spectral output of the light source is likely to have an impact on the spectral data.

Our Reflection / Backscattering Probes are based on a natural close-packing arrangement of optical fibers, which consists of a tight bundle of seven optical fibers (six illumination fibers around one read fiber). This arrangement ensures parallel orientation of the fibers. The center or read fiber splits from the other six fibers and couples to a spectrometer. The outer six illumination fibers connect to the light source and provide light to the sample. In Reflection / Backscattering Probes with an additional reference leg, there is one more optical fiber that goes directly from the light source to a spectrometer channel for reference monitoring.

** STBR stands for Short Term Bend Radius, the momentary bend radius allowed before damaging the fiber.
